In a major step forward for the future of intelligent communications, Huawei and its global partners have emerged as frontrunners at the GTI Summit during MWC Shanghai 2025. The companies took home four major accolades in the world’s first-ever New Calling x AI Challenge, a global competition co-organized by the GSMA Foundry and the Global TD-LTE Initiative (GTI). The challenge aimed to unlock new use cases by integrating AI with the rapidly evolving New Calling services, drawing nearly 100 entries from 16 universities and 58 enterprises across the globe.

The top prize was jointly awarded to two standout projects: “5G New Calling x AI In-Nanjing” by China Mobile Jiangsu and Huawei, and “Exploring the New Paradigm of stc Bank's Intelligent Customer Service” by stc and Huawei. These initiatives demonstrated how deep AI integration can elevate voice services into smart, interactive platforms that serve both individuals and enterprises. The second prize was claimed by China Mobile Henan and Huawei for their “Service AI x Network AI Empowering the New Calling DC-based Customer Service” project, while Huawei also secured the third prize for its “A2A Intelligent Agent Interconnection Revolutionizing Communication Experience.”

New Calling services—such as Visualized Voice Calling, Real-Time Translation, Simultaneous Interpretation, and Idol Calling—are already being commercialized in key markets across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America. These innovations represent a shift from traditional voice services to AI-powered content and interaction layers, helping telecom operators explore new business models and revenue streams.

The awards were accepted by Ma Peng, President of the CS&IMS Domain at Huawei Cloud Core Network Product Line. He emphasized that the dial pad is evolving into a gateway for intelligent, AI-powered services. According to Ma, the success of New Calling hinges on industry-wide cooperation and innovation. Huawei, alongside China Mobile, GTI, and GSMA, continues to spearhead this transformation by releasing white papers, establishing task forces, and conducting innovation showcases to promote collaborative growth.

The MWC Shanghai 2025 event, held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC), served as a platform for Huawei to display its latest 5G-A (5G-Advanced) technologies. As the commercial rollout of 5G-A accelerates, Huawei remains committed to shaping the telecom landscape through AI innovations that redefine services, optimize networks, and unlock intelligent business potential.
