At the Huawei Network Summit 2025 (Asia Pacific), a significant milestone in smart campus innovation was marked with the unveiling of a white paper jointly developed by Huawei, the World WLAN Application Alliance (WAA), and key industry leaders. The document, focused on the advancement and practical deployment of Wi-Fi Channel State Information (CSI) sensing, outlines the transformative role of wireless technologies in redefining campus environments through the integration of connectivity and intelligent sensing.
Wi-Fi CSI sensing is emerging as a cornerstone of next-generation campus networks, enabling environments that are not only connected but also perceptive. By analyzing subtle changes in wireless signals, CSI sensing allows for applications such as human presence detection, which can be harnessed for smart hotel check-ins, energy efficiency, and enhanced dormitory safety. The integration of "Wi-Fi + X" — where CSI is combined with technologies like millimeter-wave radar — expands possibilities even further, enabling the detection of vital signs such as heartbeat and breathing for use in healthcare and elder care facilities.
Huawei’s Xinghe Intelligent Campus Solution embodies this new wave of wireless innovation. Leveraging Wi-Fi 7 Advanced technology, it reimagines access points (APs) as dynamic sensing devices capable of interpreting micro-movements in the environment. This sonar-like capability allows the network infrastructure to identify unauthorized surveillance equipment, monitor occupancy, and track health indicators — all without direct contact. These intelligent features contribute to a comprehensive security and management framework, enhancing operational efficiency across educational, corporate, and healthcare campuses.
During the launch ceremony, industry figures including IEEE 802.11bn editor Ross Yu, WAA Executive Secretary Crane H. Yang, and representatives from the University of Macau underscored the significance of these advancements. Huawei’s leadership emphasized the role of "Wi-Fi + X" in enabling digital twins and integrating IoT, sensing, and location-based services into campus management systems. The result is a more secure, efficient, and intelligent campus ecosystem that aligns with the evolving demands of smart city infrastructure.
