At the recent GSMA IoT Summit during Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2025, Huawei laid out a powerful vision for the future of intelligent connectivity through the fusion of 5G-Advanced (5G-A), artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). In a keynote address titled “5G-A Powers All-Scenario IoT, Turbocharging a New AIoT Era for All”, Eric Zhao, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Huawei Wireless Solution, emphasized that the integration of AI with cellular IoT is not just accelerating, but is also enabling intelligent applications to thrive in previously unconnected or underserved environments.

Zhao identified three foundational pillars that are essential to realizing the full potential of AIoT: all-scenario IoT, ultra-broadband networks, and intelligent applications. All-scenario IoT refers to the expansion of device connectivity across diverse environments — from urban infrastructure and factories to agriculture and autonomous transportation. Technologies like 5G RedCap and Ambient IoT, when combined with existing solutions such as NB-IoT, are making this vision a reality by supporting a wide range of devices with varying connectivity needs. These technologies power use cases such as real-time control for embodied AI robots and ultra-fast product quality inspections, all while meeting stringent demands for low latency and energy efficiency.

To support this growing web of intelligent connections, 5G-A’s ultra-broadband capabilities are indispensable. With features such as gigabit-level uplinks, minimal latency, and extensive coverage, 5G-A serves as a crucial backbone for transporting massive volumes of data from the physical world into the cloud. This allows for real-time data processing and AI training across industrial platforms, enabling everything from hyperscale data collection to seamless cloud-based inference models.

The third pillar — intelligent applications — is where the tangible benefits of AIoT are most clearly seen. Tailored, scenario-specific AI models are increasingly being deployed in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and urban management. Zhao highlighted one case study from a smart factory in Guangdong, China, where 5G-powered HD cameras integrated with AI algorithms have drastically improved product quality inspections. This implementation not only reduced equipment repair rates by 20% but also generated cost savings of over CNY1 million annually.

Looking ahead, Zhao called for deeper collaboration across industries to foster a robust ecosystem for cellular IoT and AI. He stressed that Huawei will continue to partner with global carriers, developers, and thought leaders to accelerate innovation and unlock new revenue streams through intelligent telecom infrastructure.
