Every child deserves to begin life in a safe and nurturing environment, and with this vision, Mamaway Malaysia is introducing its Baby Box Campaign. The year-round nationwide CSR initiative is dedicated to providing free Baby Boxes to expecting mothers and parents during the precious first days of welcoming their newborns.
The campaign takes inspiration from the well-known Finnish Baby Box tradition, which has been safeguarding infants across generations worldwide. The Mamaway Finnish Baby Box offers a safe, breathable, and clutter-free sleeping space designed to reduce the risks linked to unsafe co-sleeping. It provides newborns with a simple and secure resting place while giving mothers the peace of mind to recover, bond with their babies, and embrace the early joys of parenthood.
Although there is no direct data from the National Health and Morbidity Surveys on co-sleeping mortality among Malaysian mothers and their newborns, statistics reveal that 61.1 percent of Malaysian mothers sleep with their babies. Among these, more than 60 percent share the same bed for at least the first week after birth, primarily to support breastfeeding. This practice has been shown to encourage frequent nursing, strengthen mother-child bonding, and improve breastfeeding success rates. However, recent cases in Malaysia have underscored how co-sleeping, while deeply rooted in love and convenience, can sometimes result in unintended harm. In one tragic incident in Melaka, a three-month-old baby lost his life when his father, who suffered a sudden heart attack, collapsed onto him while they were sharing the same bed.
Such heartbreaking events emphasize the importance of safe, dedicated sleeping spaces for newborns. Mamaway, as a trusted partner throughout the journey of motherhood, believes its responsibility goes beyond offering products. The Baby Box Campaign reflects its commitment to shaping safer and healthier beginnings for families by complementing cherished family traditions with a simple yet practical solution that prioritizes infant safety while preserving closeness.
“Parenting isn’t about how much money you spend, it’s about knowing the right methods. Mamaway is like a safety net. If you want to go through this stage, we won’t let you fall,” said Deborah Liu, Founder of Mamaway.
For the past two decades, Mamaway has dedicated itself to supporting mothers at every stage of their journey, from pregnancy to parenthood. The company has consistently developed products, spaces, and knowledge that ease the struggles of parenting while providing genuine emotional support for families.
The Baby Box not only emphasizes safety but also incorporates comfort and practicality. Each box is paired with a medical-grade hydrofoam mattress that is hypoallergenic, non-toxic, and has undergone 223 SGS toxicity tests to meet European safety standards. This ensures parents can have greater confidence in their baby’s wellbeing. Beyond sleep, the Baby Box is sturdy, hygienic, and portable, making it a versatile resting space for infants whether mothers are preparing meals, tidying up, or keeping their little ones close by. It is more than just a sleeping device; it is a reliable companion for the early stages of parenthood.
To take part in the campaign, expecting mothers can present their Buku Pink, the official government maternity record book, at any Mamaway outlet including IOI City Mall in Putrajaya, Bellisa Row in Penang, Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur, Setia Tropika in Johor Bahru, and Mid Valley Southkey in Johor Bahru to redeem their Finnish Baby Box. Mothers with newborns under two months old are also eligible to redeem the Baby Box. In both cases, parents have the option to complete the set by purchasing the certified hydrofoam mattress at 50 percent off with any purchase, ensuring their babies begin life with a safe and affordable start.
