In tandem with the launch of PICO OS 6, PICO has provided an early look at its ambitious hardware roadmap through Project Swan, a next-generation XR headset designed to unlock the full potential of spatial computing. Targeted for a global release in late 2026, Project Swan aims to address some of the most critical limitations in current XR devices, starting with visual clarity. The headset is equipped with a new generation of MicroOLED displays featuring an extraordinary pixel density of nearly 4000 pixels per inch—approximately nine times higher than that of typical flagship smartphones. This advancement translates into a pixels-per-degree (PPD) level capable of delivering exceptionally sharp visuals, with a center sweet spot exceeding 45 PPD, making text and fine details clear enough for professional-grade applications such as design, engineering, and virtual collaboration.

Beyond visual fidelity, Project Swan introduces a sophisticated dual-chip architecture that redefines how mixed reality is processed. By separating perception tasks from core computing functions, the system can efficiently manage complex data streams from multiple sensors, constructing a highly accurate representation of the physical world with ultra-low latency of just 12 milliseconds. This is powered by custom XR silicon dedicated to perception and imaging, alongside a flagship system-on-chip that delivers more than double the CPU and GPU performance compared to current-generation XR platforms. The result is a powerful, responsive device capable of supporting demanding applications while maintaining a smooth and immersive user experience.

To ensure that this next-generation ecosystem is refined and ready for real-world use, PICO has also launched the PICO Global Early Access Program, inviting experienced users and technology enthusiasts to participate in closed beta testing for both Project Swan and PICO OS 6. This initiative reflects a collaborative approach to innovation, where feedback from early adopters plays a crucial role in shaping the final product. By engaging a community of advanced users, PICO aims to fine-tune the synergy between hardware and software, ensuring that the platform meets the highest standards of performance, usability, and reliability.

Together, PICO OS 6 and Project Swan represent a unified vision for the future of XR—one where hardware and software are deeply integrated to deliver seamless, intuitive, and powerful spatial computing experiences. As the industry continues to evolve, PICO’s latest advancements position the company at the forefront of innovation, paving the way for a new generation of immersive technologies that will transform how people work, create, and connect in both digital and physical worlds.
