UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has officially kicked off the Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) 2026 Workshop, held from 30–31 March, ahead of the programme’s Official Opening on 1 April 2026 at Wyndham Acmar, Klang. Earlier this year, a nationwide call for entries drew an impressive 327 submissions from secondary schools across Malaysia, highlighting strong student enthusiasm to tackle environmental challenges within their communities.

Now in its 25th edition, Toyota Eco Youth has grown into a nationwide platform that fosters environmental awareness while encouraging practical, real-world problem-solving among students aged 13 to 16. Participants are challenged to identify local environmental issues and develop sustainable solutions using Toyota’s structured Problem Solving Methodology, underscoring the programme’s long-standing role in nurturing environmentally conscious young leaders.

“Through Toyota Eco Youth, students go beyond learning about environmental issues, they gain the skills, confidence, and mentorship needed to take meaningful action within their communities. As we celebrate the programme’s 25th edition, we are proud to empower these young changemakers to turn ideas into impactful, measurable projects that create lasting change,” said Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor.

From the submissions received, 30 schools have been shortlisted to advance to the Workshop and project implementation phase. Each school will receive a RM3,000 grant—totalling RM90,000—to support their initiatives. This reflects TEY’s strong emphasis on experiential learning, encouraging students to test and refine their ideas through real-world application. In addition, TEY 2026 offers RM80,000 in prize money, bringing total programme funding to RM170,000.

The main awards are as follows:
Champion – RM30,000
Second Place – RM20,000
Third Place – RM10,000

During the Workshop, students and their teacher-advisors receive hands-on guidance and mentorship to refine project ideas, develop implementation plans, and track progress. This phase focuses on “learning by doing,” fostering teamwork, creativity, and environmental stewardship.

Following project evaluations and progress reviews, the top 15 schools will advance to the final stage at the TEY 2026 Convention and Exhibition, taking place from 2–4 November 2026, where they will compete for the programme’s top honours.

Toyota Eco Youth continues to inspire Malaysia’s next generation of eco-leaders by providing structured support, practical experience, and recognition for students committed to driving sustainable change.
