UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) reached a new milestone in Malaysia’s automotive landscape today with the launch of its battery electric vehicle (BEV) lineup. This expansion of the company’s electrified portfolio reinforces its long-term pledge to advance lower-emission mobility through Toyota’s "Multi-Pathway" strategy. This approach utilizes diverse technologies to drive carbon neutrality while ensuring mobility remains practical for the daily needs of Malaysians.

As part of this rollout, UMWT debuted three distinct BEVs: the Toyota bZ4X, the Urban Cruiser, and the Hilux BEV. Together, these models broaden Toyota’s electrified reach across the passenger SUV, urban, and commercial sectors, facilitating a transition toward cleaner transport while meeting the specific requirements of various drivers and industries. This initiative aligns with UMWT’s "Move Your World" philosophy, which emphasizes mobility solutions that link people, communities, and businesses nationwide.

The launch, held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre, was attended by Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Sim Tze Tzin. He noted that the arrival of these electrified vehicles signifies the ongoing maturation of Malaysia’s automotive sector. According to the Deputy Minister, the local industry has become a highly integrated ecosystem of manufacturers and specialists. He added that as the world shifts toward cleaner mobility, investments in new technologies and local capabilities will maintain Malaysia’s status as a competitive regional automotive hub.

Malaysia’s automotive sector has been built over decades of partnership between the government, manufacturers, and local suppliers. This collaboration has fostered a robust ecosystem supporting advanced engineering and high-value manufacturing. The arrival of these new technologies demonstrates the industry’s capacity to adapt alongside the global shift in automotive standards.

Datuk Ravindran K., President of UMW Toyota Motor, explained that Toyota’s electrification strategy acknowledges that the move toward lower emissions must suit how vehicles are actually used in different markets. He noted that in Malaysia, mobility is vital for both economic productivity and social connection, often involving long distances and heavy-duty industrial use. Consequently, he emphasized that electrified mobility must be introduced strategically to truly benefit Malaysians and support their daily activities.

The lineup is headlined by the Toyota bZ4X, a dedicated electric SUV under the "Beyond Zero" brand, starting at RM 220,000.00. It offers enhanced performance and battery efficiency, providing a range of approximately 480 km without compromising everyday utility. Built on a dedicated BEV platform, it features a new eAxle system, advanced thermal management for faster DC charging, and a 14-inch multimedia interface. These features provide the quiet, smooth, and intuitive driving experience expected of a modern electric SUV.

Also introduced is the Hilux BEV, priced from RM 226,300.00, which brings electrification to Toyota’s iconic pickup. As the brand’s first global retail pickup BEV, it is designed for sectors where durability is paramount. Developed with a "Tough and Agile" theme, the Hilux BEV includes a 12.3-inch TFT display, Multi-Terrain Select, and the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3 suite. This model is built to serve both individual owners and fleet users in sectors like construction, agriculture, and logistics.

The final addition is the Urban Cruiser, a compact electric SUV for city life priced from RM 198,000.00. Based on an "Urban Tech" design, it pairs rugged SUV aesthetics with a practical, city-friendly interior. The vehicle uses an integrated digital display to manage info and climate controls through one screen. It also features 18-inch wheels, an optional panoramic roof, and a unique "squircle" steering wheel, offering a modern environment for urban commuters.

The debut of these BEVs is the next phase in UMWT’s electrification roadmap, drawing on Toyota’s global expertise. As the local landscape shifts, UMWT remains committed to working with stakeholders to keep electrified technology accessible and practical. Through its "Best in Town" promise, UMWT continues to enhance the ownership experience via its nationwide support network, contributing to Toyota’s "Beyond Zero" vision for a sustainable future.
