BREGO Life Sciences is set to launch BREGO Cares 2026: Stronger Bones, Better Health, a community-driven bone health screening initiative aimed at bringing early bone health assessment closer to Malaysians through primary care clinics. The programme will introduce VeriOsteo OP, an AI-assisted bone mineral density screening software, to selected clinics nationwide. Held in conjunction with Osteoporosis Awareness Month, the initiative will run from May to June 2026 and is expected to reach communities across Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Pahang, Johor, Terengganu, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak, extending access to early screening beyond major urban centres.

Often referred to as a “silent disease”, osteoporosis can progress without noticeable symptoms until a fracture occurs. Globally, one in three women and one in five men above the age of 50 are at risk of experiencing osteoporotic fractures during their lifetime. Although DEXA scans remain the gold standard for osteoporosis diagnosis, access to these services in Malaysia is still largely limited to major hospitals and specialist centres, making early screening difficult for many communities.

A Malaysian survey involving primary care physicians revealed that only 27.7 per cent actively practised osteoporosis screening, while 90.6 per cent identified limited access to bone mineral densitometry services such as DEXA scans as a major barrier. BREGO Cares was developed in response to this gap by exploring how AI-assisted screening can support earlier risk assessment within primary care settings. By utilising existing X-ray facilities in clinics, the initiative aims to reduce dependence on specialist referrals and separate appointments, making preventive bone health assessments more accessible as part of routine healthcare.

Dr. Tan Cheng Lu, General Practitioner at O2 Klinik Sri Petaling, said bone health issues are often only identified after a patient experiences a fall or fracture. He noted that improving access to screening at the clinic level would allow healthcare providers to begin conversations earlier and guide patients on preventive measures before more serious complications occur.

Danny Wong, Founder of BREGO Life Sciences, described BREGO Cares as part of the company’s commitment to improving access to preventive healthcare through innovative and accessible solutions. He explained that while awareness surrounding bone health has increased, access to early screening remains a significant challenge. According to him, the initiative is designed to help close this gap by enabling earlier assessments through neighbourhood clinics.

The programme will be implemented through two tracks. Track A will feature half-day bone health screening sessions that include chest X-rays with VeriOsteo assessment, alongside complimentary SelecK2 and/or Recardis calcium and Vitamin D supplement samples provided based on screening outcomes. Participating Track A clinics include O2 Klinik Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur, Klinik Hayat Subang Perdana and Klinik Utama Jugra in Selangor, Klinik Adam Hawa Paroi in Negeri Sembilan, Klinik Rohana & Seripah in Terengganu, Klinik Remedic in Kedah, Permai Polyclinics Lok Kawi in Sabah, and PMG Medical Clinic in Sarawak, among others.

Track B will focus on expanding community outreach through free Vitamin D screening using fingerstick tests with immediate results. The screenings will be accompanied by practical education on bone health risk factors and recommended follow-up care pathways. Participating Track B clinics include SEGi Healthcare in Selangor, Klinik Medilove Keponggi and Klinik Kwan & Chong in Kuala Lumpur, Poliklinik Ar Razi and Klinik Adam Hawa Bera in Pahang, Klinik Primer Cherang in Kelantan, Klinik Perubatan Hijraa in Terengganu, and Klinik Medina Seremban 2 in Negeri Sembilan.

BREGO Cares builds upon BREGO Life Sciences’ broader community health initiatives and reflects the company’s ongoing efforts to expand preventive healthcare programmes in Malaysia. The first confirmed screening session will take place at O2 Klinik Sri Petaling on 21 May 2026.
