Weird Genius is pushing the boundaries of the electronic genre once again, blending futuristic production with the raw, mystical energy of Indonesian heritage. Their latest single, "Your Side," featuring the powerful vocals of Novia Bachmid, represents a new chapter of "Sonic Folklore"—a movement to bring the endangered sounds of the archipelago into the modern age.

The track is the result of a dedicated two-week residency in Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). During this immersion, the trio focused on reviving traditional instruments like the Jungga and Dungga Roro, which are often overlooked by the digital generation. By integrating these ancient sounds with high-octane electronic elements, Weird Genius has created a track that feels both thousands of years old and ahead of its time.

“‘Your Side’ came from our journey in Sumba as part of a project exploring endangered traditional instruments,” the group shared. “Through this song, Weird Genius returns to its core. In 2016, we went to Bali and created ‘DPS’; 10 years later, we went to Sumba and created ‘Your Side.’ We poured all of Sumba’s grandeur and magical atmosphere into this track.”

The song’s otherworldly vibe is established immediately by an intro featuring traditional Sumbanese musician Umbu Haling, whose presence adds a layer of "magical realism" to the production. The result is a genre-defying experience that serves as a bridge between the past and the future.

Weird Genius hopes "Your Side" will serve as the ultimate companion for those exploring the vast beauty of Indonesia. More than just a song, it is a sonic testament to the idea that traditional music can be reinvented, revived, and played on the world’s biggest stages without losing its soul.
