Kuala Lumpur, 15 June 2026: SBM Offshore is celebrating its 20th anniversary of operations in Malaysia, marking two decades of growth, innovation and contribution to the company’s global offshore energy activities. The milestone highlights Malaysia’s transformation from a supporting operational location into a strategic hub that plays an important role in delivering complex, world-class offshore projects across international markets.
Over the past two decades, SBM Offshore Malaysia has evolved into an integral part of the company’s global execution network, supporting a wide range of offshore developments involving Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units, Turret Mooring Systems and Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring (CALM) Buoys. Malaysian teams have contributed to 13 global projects, demonstrating the country’s growing capabilities and expertise in offshore engineering and project delivery.
With a workforce of approximately 500 employees, SBM Offshore Malaysia serves as a key contributor to the company’s international operations. The Malaysia hub provides specialised technical expertise, engineering excellence and project execution support across multiple disciplines, working closely with SBM Offshore’s global offices to ensure seamless collaboration, consistent standards and high-quality outcomes throughout every project phase.
Throughout its journey, SBM Offshore Malaysia has contributed to several major offshore developments, including early involvement in the Kikeh FPSO project, as well as participation in projects such as FPSO Aseng, FPSO N’goma, FPSO Sepetiba and FPSO Alexandre de Gusmao. These achievements have strengthened Malaysia’s technical capabilities while reinforcing its position as a reliable partner in delivering complex offshore energy solutions.
Christine Lim, Country Manager of SBM Offshore Malaysia, said the Malaysia hub has grown into a Global Execution Centre with strong technical capabilities and close integration with SBM Offshore’s international teams. She highlighted that the achievement reflects not only the growth and expertise of Malaysian talent, but also the country’s increasing importance in supporting global offshore energy projects.
Beyond project delivery, SBM Offshore Malaysia continues to strengthen collaboration with local partners, suppliers and industry organisations such as the Malaysian Oil, Gas and Energy Services Council (MOGSC). These partnerships contribute to local capability development while supporting the company’s commitment to responsible, safe and high-quality operations within the energy sector.
Looking ahead, SBM Offshore remains committed to investing in Malaysia through talent development programmes, university collaborations and early-career initiatives aimed at building future engineering and technical capabilities. The company will also continue supporting sustainability efforts, including marine conservation programmes, STEM education initiatives and efforts to encourage greater participation of women in engineering and technical fields.
As SBM Offshore moves into its next chapter, Malaysia will continue to serve as a key pillar within the company’s global organisation. Through continued investment, innovation and cross-border collaboration, SBM Offshore Malaysia is poised to further strengthen its role in shaping the future of offshore energy delivery worldwide.
