As commerce becomes increasingly connected, intelligent and driven by digital identity, businesses and financial institutions across Asia Pacific are exploring how to prepare for the payment ecosystem of 2030. Financial institutions, payment providers, merchants, policymakers and industry stakeholders are seeking practical solutions to navigate a rapidly evolving landscape that must be trusted, interoperable, data-driven, secure and convenient. With AI agents beginning to influence how consumers discover products, make purchasing decisions and complete transactions, the industry is also placing greater emphasis on ensuring that emerging commerce experiences remain secure, consumer-controlled and scalable.

At the Mastercard Experience Center in Singapore, Mastercard is bringing these developments to life through interactive demonstrations and collaborative co-creation sessions involving financial institutions, fintech companies, merchants and industry partners. As one of seven Mastercard Experience Centers globally, the Singapore innovation hub provides stakeholders with a hands-on environment to explore emerging payment technologies and better understand how they can be applied to future commerce experiences.

Visitors to the center can experience the latest edition of Mastercard’s Innovation Circuit, an immersive workshop journey now in its fourth edition. Under this year’s theme, “Next Lap in Payments”, the experience explores how agentic commerce, trusted digital identity, tokenization, interoperability and AI-powered network intelligence are coming together to create a new generation of secure, seamless and convenient payment experiences.

Inspired by motor racing and Mastercard’s sponsorship of the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team, the Innovation Circuit uses the speed, precision and agility associated with motorsport to demonstrate the technologies and capabilities needed to power the next phase of the payments industry. The concept is designed to help industry participants understand how emerging technologies can work together to support the future of connected commerce.

Matthew Driver, Executive Vice President, Services, Asia Pacific, Mastercard, said organisations need to understand how to build commerce experiences that are trusted, scalable and commercially viable as new technologies transform the way consumers discover, select and pay for products and services. He added that the Mastercard Experience Center in Singapore provides partners with an opportunity to connect capabilities across identity, tokenization, fraud prevention and payment innovation, while exploring their potential impact on customer experiences, business operations and growth.

The Innovation Circuit is structured around three key “pitstops” focused on trust, experience and intelligence. Together, these experiences demonstrate how different technologies can connect across the entire commerce journey, covering areas such as identity and onboarding, product discovery, payment, transaction authorisation, fraud prevention, optimisation and business insights.

The first experience, “Igniting Innovation”, focuses on the trust and identity infrastructure supporting the next generation of commerce. Participants are introduced to biometric onboarding processes, tokenised credential-sharing experiences and consent-based identity models. These demonstrations highlight how secure digital identity can enable consumers to authorise AI agents to act on their behalf while retaining greater visibility and control over their personal data.

The second experience, “Shifting Gears”, explores the future of the customer journey through an interactive scenario centred on a sports fan. Participants navigate experiences involving event ticketing, merchandise purchases, upgrades and payments while interacting with AI-powered shopping and concierge agents. These intelligent agents demonstrate how they can assist with booking tickets, providing location-based event notifications, recommending upgrades and securing merchandise while coordinating across different merchants and payment methods in real time.

The final experience, “Powering Growth”, focuses on the data and intelligence that support transactions behind the scenes. Participants can track a transaction data point from the moment it begins through to optimisation, observing how data, AI models, tokenization and network intelligence can work together to identify potential fraud, improve transaction approval rates and generate actionable business insights. These capabilities are designed to operate while maintaining strong standards for privacy and security.

The Mastercard Experience Center in Singapore reflects the growing importance of collaboration and practical experimentation as the payments ecosystem evolves. By bringing together financial institutions, fintechs, merchants and technology partners, the center provides an environment where stakeholders can explore how emerging technologies can be integrated into real-world commerce experiences and prepare for the changing expectations of consumers.

Mastercard has also announced plans to introduce Innovation Centers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Tokyo, Japan, later this year. These new locations are expected to bring Mastercard’s innovation experiences closer to customers and partners across the region, offering immersive storytelling and collaborative live-test environments tailored to local market needs.

The planned expansion of Mastercard’s innovation network highlights the company’s continued focus on supporting the development of Asia Pacific’s digital commerce ecosystem. With additional locations expected across the region, the initiative aims to provide more businesses and industry stakeholders with opportunities to explore emerging technologies and understand how innovations in AI, digital identity, tokenization and network intelligence can shape the future of payments.

As the industry moves towards a more connected and intelligent commerce environment, initiatives such as the Innovation Circuit demonstrate the importance of building payment ecosystems that balance innovation with trust, security and consumer control. By exploring the intersection of technology and commerce, Mastercard is helping industry stakeholders prepare for a future where digital payments are increasingly seamless, intelligent, secure and interconnected.
