Fadillah was admitted to IJN on 28 July and received treatment under the care of Senior Consultant Cardiologists Datuk Dr Shaiful Azmi Yahaya and Dato’ Sri Dr Azmee Mohd Ghazi, supported by Cardiology Clinical Fellows Dr Ow Jie Ken and Dr Fa’iz Mashood. He subsequently underwent a coronary angiogram on 29 July to assess the condition of his coronary arteries.
Following a multidisciplinary team discussion, the medical team determined that coronary artery bypass surgery was the most appropriate treatment option. The double bypass procedure was successfully carried out on 12 August by IJN Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeons Prof Dato’ Sri Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib and Prof Dato’ Seri Dr Mohd Azhari Yakub, together with Clinical Fellow Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Dr Ahmad Mahir Shamsuddin.
The procedure was supported by an experienced anaesthesia team comprising Senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist Dato’ Dr Suneta Sulaiman, Consultant Anaesthesiologist Dr Norhayati Anuar and Anaesthesiology Clinical Fellow Dr Wazir Ahmad Haja Sahabudeen. The surgery was conducted under IJN’s Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocol, a multidisciplinary approach designed to encourage early mobilisation, reduce potential complications and support a safer and faster recovery.
IJN Group Chief Executive Officer Prof Dato’ Sri Dr Mohamed Ezani Md Taib said the medical team was pleased with the Deputy Prime Minister II’s progress, noting that his treatment and recovery had proceeded according to plan. His condition continues to improve as expected, reflecting positive progress during the early stages of his post-operative recovery.
As part of his early mobilisation programme on 13 August, Fadillah successfully completed 2.8 kilometres of cycling exercise under the supervision of IJN’s clinical team. The activity formed part of his rehabilitation following the bypass surgery and demonstrated his progress in regaining physical mobility.
Following the exercise session, Fadillah was transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the general ward on the afternoon of 13 August. He will continue his post-CABG cardiac rehabilitation under the care and supervision of IJN’s clinical team as part of his ongoing recovery.
