Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) has strengthened its position as a regional leader in cardiovascular care through a new collaboration with Artivion Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which designates the national heart institute as the Asia-Pacific Aortic Care Training Centre of Excellence. The partnership aims to enhance specialist training, knowledge-sharing and clinical expertise in the management of complex aortic diseases, while supporting the development of highly skilled healthcare professionals across the region.

As part of the collaboration, IJN will introduce the Aortic Care Essential (ACE) Training Course, a comprehensive programme designed for local and international healthcare professionals. Participants will have the opportunity to observe live aortic procedures, learn advanced surgical techniques and gain practical insights from IJN's experienced multidisciplinary clinical teams. The initiative is expected to strengthen clinical competency in diagnosing and treating life-threatening aortic conditions through structured, hands-on learning.

The training programme will also feature procedural demonstrations involving Artivion's specialised aortic medical technologies, alongside product training to ensure the safe and effective use of these devices in clinical practice. By combining advanced medical technologies with expert-led education, the collaboration seeks to improve procedural confidence, enhance decision-making and support better patient outcomes for individuals affected by complex aortic diseases.


IJN Group Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Dato' Sri Dr. Mohamed Ezani Md Taib, described the designation as a significant recognition of the institute's expertise, facilities and extensive experience in managing complex cardiovascular conditions. He noted that the collaboration will enable IJN to share its clinical knowledge with healthcare professionals from Malaysia and across the Asia-Pacific region, further strengthening regional capabilities in specialised aortic care.

Chief Clinical Officer Datuk Dr. Shaiful Azmi Yahaya emphasised that treating aortic diseases requires not only advanced medical technologies but also sound clinical judgement, technical expertise and close collaboration among multidisciplinary teams. He said the ACE Training Course will expose participants to real-world clinical practices in a structured environment, equipping them with valuable skills that can contribute to safer procedures and improved patient care.


Artivion also views the partnership as an important milestone in expanding access to innovative treatments for life-threatening aortic diseases throughout Asia. According to the company, collaborating with IJN—an institution recognised for its clinical excellence and strong patient outcomes—will help accelerate knowledge transfer and support wider adoption of evidence-based treatment approaches across the region.

The collaboration agreement will remain in effect until the end of 2028, with the possibility of an extension. Through its role as the Asia-Pacific Aortic Care Training Centre of Excellence, IJN continues to reinforce its standing as a regional referral, education and innovation hub, contributing to the advancement of cardiovascular medicine and raising the standard of specialised aortic care beyond Malaysia.
