KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, 2 July 2026
Starwave Entertainment is taking a major step towards positioning Malaysia on the international entertainment map through the development of original intellectual property (IP), global collaborations and large-scale productions. As part of its expansion strategy, the company has announced "The Apex," an original reality competition series that aims to showcase Malaysian creative capabilities while attracting audiences from around the world.

Designed as a global combat sports reality show, The Apex will feature amateur fighters from different countries and backgrounds competing for a chance to become champion. Beyond the action inside the boxing ring, the series will highlight each contestant's personal journey, revealing the sacrifices, determination and resilience that have shaped their pursuit of success. Through a combination of physical challenges, elimination rounds and emotional storytelling, the programme aims to deliver an inspiring viewing experience that goes beyond sports competition.

Starwave Entertainment revealed that discussions are currently underway to involve a globally renowned boxing icon in the project. While the company has yet to announce the final lineup, the potential collaboration reflects its ambition to create a world-class production capable of attracting international audiences and raising the profile of Malaysian entertainment on the global stage.

Production for The Apex will be based entirely in Malaysia, creating valuable opportunities for local filmmakers, production crews, creative professionals and technical specialists. By combining homegrown talent with internationally experienced industry experts, the project is expected to strengthen Malaysia's reputation as a destination capable of producing premium entertainment content for global distribution.

The production team brings together an impressive lineup of international expertise. Creative Director Bobby Kim is recognised for his work on hit reality programmes including Physical: 100 and Culinary Class Wars, while producer and director Mark PD (Park Sangmin) has been involved in productions featuring K-pop stars such as Wonder Girls and SEVENTEEN, as well as the MAMA Awards. Joining them are visual effects producer Ritto Prabu, whose credits include Dune: Part Two and Avatar: Fire and Ash, alongside Executive Producer and Creative Director Asher Yeap, who specialises in reality television and branded entertainment.

To support its future productions, Starwave Entertainment is also pursuing a fundraising initiative that will help finance upcoming entertainment projects, including The Apex. The company is inviting investors, strategic partners and industry stakeholders to participate as it continues expanding its portfolio of original content and international collaborations. Through these efforts, Starwave Entertainment hopes to establish Malaysia as a recognised hub for innovative entertainment while creating opportunities for local talent to shine on the world stage.
