CelcomDigi Berhad (CelcomDigi) and HELP University are strengthening their collaboration to nurture high-potential Malaysian students into future-ready digital talent through work-based learning, industry mentorship and experiential learning. The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world industry experience while supporting the development of a stronger talent pipeline for Malaysia’s evolving digital economy.

A key component of the collaboration is the introduction of Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunities for eligible HELP University students across different years and levels of study. Through exposure to real business projects and workplace environments, students will be able to apply their academic knowledge in practical settings while gaining valuable insights into the telecommunications and technology industries.

The partnership will also provide opportunities for students to engage with experienced CelcomDigi professionals through corporate and industry mentorship programmes. These engagements are designed to help students better understand workplace expectations, develop professional capabilities and make more informed decisions about their future careers.

Both organisations will also explore pathways aligned with the 2U1I model – “2 Years University-Based Learning, 1 Year Industry-Based Learning”. The structured approach will allow students to complement their academic education with extended industry exposure, giving them an opportunity to build practical skills and gain first-hand experience before entering the workforce.

For HELP University, the collaboration reflects its commitment to combining academic excellence with meaningful industry engagement. By integrating classroom learning with practical experience, the university aims to equip students with not only recognised qualifications, but also the adaptability, knowledge and professional skills needed to navigate an increasingly dynamic workplace.

Driving AI Leadership and Innovation

Artificial intelligence (AI) will be another major focus of the partnership, with CelcomDigi and HELP University exploring collaboration through an AI Hub at the university. The initiative is expected to bring academia and industry closer together through applied AI projects, research and innovation, industry engagement, talent development and knowledge exchange involving AI and other emerging technologies.

Dr Goh Chee Leong, Group Co-CEO (Tertiary) of HELP Education Group, said the future of tertiary education depends on bringing the classroom and workplace closer together. He highlighted that students need opportunities to understand how academic knowledge can be applied in real-world environments, with the partnership providing them with valuable exposure to industry professionals and workplace practices.

Meanwhile, CelcomDigi Chief Human Resources Officer Azmi Ujang emphasised the importance of developing a strong talent pipeline equipped with both technical knowledge and practical business understanding. He noted that employers increasingly value qualities such as adaptability, problem-solving and the ability to apply knowledge in real-world situations, making stronger collaboration between universities and industry increasingly important.

Beyond student development, the partnership will also extend learning opportunities to CelcomDigi employees and their children. HELP University will offer various programmes including short courses, micro-credentials, executive education, customised programmes and professional certifications, covering both credit-bearing and non-credit-bearing learning opportunities.

Through these initiatives, CelcomDigi and HELP University aim to establish a broader platform for continuous collaboration between academia and industry. The partnership will support learners at different stages, from university students preparing to enter the workforce to working professionals looking to strengthen their capabilities and remain competitive in Malaysia’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
