CelcomDigi Berhad continues to support the growth and digital transformation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through its MY5G SME Digital Workshop, with the latest edition bringing practical digital knowledge and technology solutions to entrepreneurs in Malaysia’s Northern region. Now in its fourth year, the programme has reached more than 3,000 local entrepreneurs, helping business owners better understand how digital tools can support their operations and growth.
The initiative reflects CelcomDigi’s ongoing efforts to make digitalisation more accessible and relevant to SMEs, particularly businesses at different stages of development. This year, the programme introduces refreshed workshop formats, with early-stage businesses learning how to establish a stronger digital presence, while more established enterprises are introduced to technology solutions that can be integrated into their everyday business operations.
The MY5G SME Digital Workshop is being conducted across 14 locations nationwide, with the Northern region programme attracting more than 300 SMEs. The initiative is supported by a range of strategic partners, including Funding Societies Malaysia, Swipey, CTOS Data Systems, CardUp, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), SME Bank, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad (BPMB), SME Corporation Malaysia, SAMENTA, Digital Penang, Onsmo Lighting Malaysia and TikTok Shop Malaysia.
One of the participants who benefited from the programme is Dapur Bakar Ayam Goreng Kunyit, a local business operated by Puan Noor Shamsiah bt Mohd Farouk and her husband, Encik Mohd Hasnizam bin Abu Bakar. Having previously struggled to attract new customers online, the couple said the workshop provided practical insights that could be applied immediately, particularly in areas such as digital content and social commerce.
The business journey of Dapur Bakar Ayam Goreng Kunyit also highlights the potential of Malaysian SMEs to grow with the right support and digital infrastructure. Starting from a modest three-wheel cart in Penang, the business has since expanded to 13 outlets nationwide. As customers of CelcomDigi’s Business Postpaid and Fibre solutions, the company also benefits from connectivity solutions that support its growing operations.
Beyond the workshops, CelcomDigi has also brought its Skuad 5G Edisi SME initiative directly to local business communities through market visits. Visits to locations including Pasar Awam Bagan Ajam and Pasar Awam Sri Muda in Penang enabled the team to engage with more than 110 business owners and gain a better understanding of their operational needs, challenges and digitalisation priorities.
Chief Enterprise Business Officer of CelcomDigi, T Kugan, emphasised that digitalisation does not have to be complicated for SMEs. According to him, businesses need practical solutions that can address everyday challenges such as reaching new customers, managing cash flow, producing content and connecting with suitable partners, which is why the workshops focus on hands-on learning and direct access to industry expertise.
The programme’s on-ground approach also enables CelcomDigi to engage directly with entrepreneurs and better understand the realities faced by Malaysian SMEs. By combining digital education, industry partnerships and practical technology solutions, the MY5G SME Digital Workshop aims to make digital transformation more accessible and actionable for businesses across the country.
Through continued initiatives such as the MY5G SME Digital Workshop, CelcomDigi is strengthening its role in supporting Malaysia’s SME ecosystem while helping local entrepreneurs build stronger digital capabilities. The programme demonstrates how connectivity, technology and practical knowledge can work together to create new opportunities for SMEs to expand and remain competitive in an increasingly digital economy.
