Four women from Sabah have shown that determination, teamwork and a shared passion can take an ordinary community pursuit to an extraordinary stage. Doris Ng Lee Chu, Noveny Viannie, Victoria Martin and Lisa Lawrence, members of Sabah-based GeramBeat, represented Malaysia in the Women’s 4x4 250kg Tug of War demonstration event at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, where they brought home a gold medal. Although tug of war was held as a demonstration event rather than an official medal sport, their achievement remains a remarkable milestone that has yet to receive widespread recognition among Malaysians.

This Merdeka and Malaysia Day, WONDA Kopi Tarik is bringing GeramBeat’s story to the forefront through its “Tarik Malaysians Together” campaign. The campaign draws a meaningful connection between two familiar Malaysian experiences — kopi tarik and tarik tali — both of which embody the spirit of coming together. Just as a successful tug-of-war team relies on every member pulling in the same direction, WONDA believes Malaysians can achieve more when their individual strengths are united.

GeramBeat’s inspiring journey is showcased through WONDA Kopi Tarik’s hero film, which offers Malaysians a closer look at the women behind the team. The film follows their everyday lives as they balance careers, family commitments and personal responsibilities while remaining dedicated to their passion for tug of war. Away from the competition arena, they are ordinary Malaysians who have continued pursuing a sport that often receives limited attention and recognition.

Amy Gan, Vice President of Marketing at Etika Sdn Bhd, said GeramBeat’s story stood out because of the extraordinary journey undertaken by the four women despite their achievement remaining relatively unknown. She highlighted how the team’s experience reflects the values behind the “Tarik Malaysians Together” campaign, where every individual plays an important role and success comes from trusting and supporting one another.

The four GeramBeat members come from different backgrounds and have their own responsibilities outside the sport. Doris Ng, 38, works as a Sales & Marketing Executive, while 26-year-old Noveny Viannie is a Forwarding Executive from Kampung Lamat, Sabah. Victoria Martin, 51, is a housewife and farmer from Kampung Mekiok, Papar, while Lisa Lawrence, 29, works as an Administrative Officer at a factory in Kota Kinabalu.

Despite their different lifestyles and experiences, the women share a strong sense of teamwork when they step onto the rope. Their success at the SEA Games demonstration event was built on more than physical strength, requiring discipline, trust, coordination and commitment towards a common goal. Their story serves as a reminder that achievements can emerge when individuals come together and contribute their unique strengths.

As part of the campaign, GeramBeat will also be featured in an exclusive interview with Astro, where the team members will share their experience competing on the SEA Games stage and the significance of bringing home gold for Malaysia. The campaign will continue across radio, digital and social media platforms, providing more Malaysians with an opportunity to discover the team’s journey and learn more about the women behind the achievement.

The “Tarik Malaysians Together” celebration will continue into Malaysia Day on 16 September 2026, when WONDA Kopi Tarik brings the campaign to Keretapi Sarong 2026 through a series of interactive activities. WONDA will kick off the celebration at Subang Jaya LRT Station with live performances, interactive games, complimentary WONDA Kopi Tarik and exclusive giveaways, while also offering free train rides to Keretapi Sarong 2026 to encourage Malaysians to travel and celebrate together.

Through GeramBeat’s story and its Malaysia Day activities, WONDA Kopi Tarik aims to offer a relatable expression of unity that goes beyond simply coming together. The campaign celebrates the strength of Malaysians when they trust one another, contribute their individual abilities and work towards a shared goal, much like the four women from Sabah who pulled together to create their own remarkable SEA Games story.
